Additional Information:	This 1-hour continuing education program provides EMS providers with an overview of heat-related emergencies commonly encountered in the prehospital environment. The course will review the pathophysiology of dehydration and thermoregulation failure, as well as the recognition and management of common heat illnesses including heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. Participants will also review the assessment and treatment of superficial radiation burns (sunburn) and discuss firefighter-specific heat emergencies including firefighter collapse and cardiac arrest secondary to heat stress. Emphasis will be placed on early recognition, rapid cooling strategies, and appropriate BLS management in accordance with NJ EMS protocols and best practices.
