New Jersey Office of Emergency Medical Services

Established in 1967, the New Jersey Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS) was the first office of its kind in the United States.
Today, OEMS operates as part of the Division of Disaster Preparedness, Resiliency, and Emergency Medical Services (DPREMS) within the NJ Department of Health.

OEMS certifies more than 20,000 Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and licenses more than 1,700 Mobile Intensive Care Paramedics (MICPs) statewide. The office also oversees the licensure of more than 4,500 medical transport vehicles — including mobility assistance vehicles, ambulances, mobile intensive care units, specialty care transport units, and air medical units.
